The St. Joseph’s Prep Crew program has a long tradition of excellence dating back to its inception in the 1920’s. Prep Crew competes regularly at the highest levels locally, nationally, and internationally. Locally, Prep Crew members are regulars on the medal stand at the Philadelphia Catholic League Championship and at the Philadelphia City Championship. Nationally, Prep Crew has claimed numerous victories over the years at the Scholastic Rowing Association of America National Championship Regatta and the US Youth Rowing National Championship. Internationally, Prep Crew consistently competes and wins gold medals at the Stotesbury Cup, the largest high school regatta in the world.

On Sunday June 15, 2025, the Prep's Under-17 Men's 8+ took gold at the USRowing Youth National Championships in Sarasota, Florida. This is the first time the Prep has won gold in this event, which requires that all the athletes in the boat not attain the age of 17 in this calendar year. This boat was composed of 8 sophomores (Class of 2027) and 1 freshman (Class of 2028). Martin Boeckheler, Quinn Bransfield, Joseph Nolan, Gabe Sohlich-Miller, John Michael DeLaurentiis, Jack Hricko, Steven Brown, James Cullen, and David O'Connor (coxswain). The Prep took first over Marin Rowing Association (CA), second, and Sarasota Crew (FL), third. 23 crews entered this event and of the 8 that made it to the grand final, the Prep was the only scholastic team; the rest of the teams in the final were club programs.

The Prep is the only school to ever win a sweep of all the boys’ eight-oared events at the Stotesbury Cup, achieving this in 1997 & 2008. In 2021 Prep Crew became the first school since 1969 to win the Senior 8 and Senior 4 at Stotesbury. Also in 2021, Prep Crew captured the program's first national championship, claiming the Varsity 8+ title at USRowing Youth Nationals and Coach John Fife was named USRowing National Coach of the Year. Since 1980, Prep Crew has made numerous appearances at the elite Henley Royal Regatta on the River Thames in England. The Prep has won the Princess Elizabeth Challenge Cup at Henley in 2000. Prep Rowers have gone on to compete at every Ivy League school, Cal-Berkeley, Georgetown, MIT, U.S. Naval Academy, and countless of other prestigious universities.
